Low Yield VBIED

Friday, July 6, 2007

This video is an excellent example of what not to do when approaching a potential VBIED vehicle. In the video, insurgents arm the vehicle device, move to their escape vehicle and fire one rifle round into the air to warn the terrorist cell filming the vehicle that it is ready and then the group departs the scene. Shortly thereafter, Iraqi police arrive because the vehicle is blocking the roadway, and then the police move to the vehicle to secure it. Western security forces need to pay close attention to this form of attack because it is anticipated that this is how terrorist organizations in the west will continue to develop their strategy, absent suicide drivers of the vehicles to their targets. The vehicle device used a low yield explosive charge and fuel to create anti-personnel effects.

Terrorists are using low-yield fuel bombs similar to the devices used in Glasgow to create area effect antipersonnel casualties.
