IJA Propaganda

The Islamic Jihad Army in Iraq recently used surface to air missiles against US military helicopters, downing over six helicopters in the last two weeks alone. Along with Ansar al Sunnah, the Islamic Army in Iraq terrorist organization is one of the most sophisticated groups operating in Iraq against the United States and the democratically-elected Iraqi government.

With Syrian and Iranian military resource support, the Islamic Army in Iraq terrorist organization is now emerging as a real threat to US objectives in Iraq. The Islamic Army in Iraq also possesses another powerful tool in the group’s arsenal, the power of propaganda.

The video below is one of the most sophisticated propaganda videos yet to emerge from a terrorist organization in Iraq. The video was created by what is known as the “Media Platoon” of the Islamic Army in Iraq. The speaker in the video uses English very well and has a hint of a British accent. In the video the speaker also thanks France and Germany for their “support” but doesn’t tell us what that support is and instructs that the Islamic Army in Iraq does not need weapons or personnel, but merely support in the United Nations to change US Middle Eastern Policy. The speaker goes on to say that if the Islamic Army in Iraq had more digital cameras to film with, the terrorist organization could prove that US casualties are larger than those being reported by the western media, the typical psychological propaganda that emerges in most wars with an unconventional enemy. The long diatribe in the video also contains a veiled threat for other western countries to help the Iraqi people, or those countries could also face “destruction” if they side with the United States. The speaker does state that the war is no longer contained to Iraq’s borders.

The power of this Islamic Army in Iraq terrorist organization psyop video is not just the fact that an English speaking individual is narrating it, but it is also set to music and timed very well to specific video events which demonstrate an increase in overall sophistication of the Jihadi psyop effort.

It is expected then that Jihadi propaganda will only become more sophisticated over time as Jihadists use better video and editing equipment to produce such videos.
